San Sebastian International Film Festival The 74th edition of its International Film Festival kicks off today in San Sebastian (Guipúzcoa, Basque Country, Spain): nine days in which the city changes the rhythm of the waves for that of the red carpets.

Born in 1953, the Zinemaldia is the only Spanish festival with category A of the FIAPF, the same as Cannes, Venice or Berlin, and the great showcase of Spanish-language cinema. The Kursaal concentrates the galas and the Official Section, which competes for the Golden Shell, while the Victoria Eugenia, the Teatro Principal and Tabakalera distribute the rest of the sections.

And then there is the setting: the bay of La Concha, Mount Urgull and a city that can be walked through from pintxo to pintxo. Here, in September, the queues to enter the cinema are as much a part of the landscape as the smell of the sea.

Nacido en 1953, el Zinemaldia es el único certamen español con categoría A de la FIAPF, la misma que Cannes, Venecia o Berlín, y el gran escaparate del cine en español. El Kursaal concentra las galas y la Sección Oficial, que compite por la Concha de Oro, mientras el Victoria Eugenia, el Teatro Principal y Tabakalera reparten el resto de secciones.

Y luego está el decorado: la bahía de la Concha, el monte Urgull y una ciudad que se recorre a pie de pintxo en pintxo. Aquí, en septiembre, las colas para entrar al cine forman parte del paisaje tanto como el olor a mar.

E poi c'è l'ambientazione: Baia di La Concha, il Monte Urgull e una città che si può attraversare a piedi da un pintxo all'altro. Qui, a settembre, le code per entrare al cinema fanno parte del paesaggio tanto quanto l'odore del mare.
