Lettera di Vincent Van Gogh all'amico a Émile Bernard - St.Rémy, Settembre 1888.

The Mower
"I'm struggling with a painting I started a few days before my relapse, a mower, the studio is yellow, terribly muddled, but the idea was nice and simple. And so I saw in this mower – a vague figure who struggles like a demon under the sun to get to the bottom of his work – I saw in him the image of death, in the sense that humanity would be the wheat that is mowed. He is therefore – if you want – the antithesis of that Sower I had traced earlier. But in this death nothing sad, everything happens in full light with a sun that floods everything with a light of fine gold."

Lettre de Vincent Van Gogh à son ami à Émile Bernard - St. Rémy, septembre 1888.
