World Health Day
This harbor seal, photographed at Robert Moses State Park on Long Island, New York, seems to give off good vibes. And it is that his gesture fits perfectly with the spirit of World Health Day, which is celebrated every November 21. This joyful initiative began in 1973 when American brothers Brian and Michael McCormack sent 1,360 letters in seven languages to world leaders, inviting them to participate in the first celebration. His message was simple but powerful: personal communication can help preserve peace. Today, people from more than 180 countries join this tradition.
Interestingly, seals raise their fins primarily to regulate their body temperature. But for us, his gesture seems like a greeting, perfect for today. So, as you watch this seal, follow its lead: greet someone new today, whether it's a neighbor, a coworker, or even a passerby. In Spain, where greeting and courtesy are highly prized values, a kind word can create your own "wave" of peace in everyday life.
