Trump heralds authoritarian turn
"The only limit to my power is my morality." "I don't need International Law."
America is seething, the Constitution is receding, the clash is approaching.
Trump has offered the world the perfect definition of what DEMOCRACY IS NOT: he has definitively crossed the line that separates it from the Dictatorship.
Here we are no longer in the field of interpretation. It is not a journalistic exaggeration, nor a "militant" reading of events. What is happening in the United States is a phase transition: institutional tensions have entered the dress rehearsal of an authoritarian turn. Venezuela is only the detonator. The real target is the system of counterweights on which American democracy is based.
The Dictatorship is never defined as such, it always passes itself off as something else, so it does not depend on the apparent form in which a Nation is articulated and politically structured, but on the substance, that is, on the substantial disappearance of the checks and balances between the Powers of the State, on the annihilation of the dialectic between the institutions and on the lack of respect for the rules enshrined in the Constitution, in the absence of which every Democracy ceases to be such.
Trump utters these words to claim military action without congressional authorization and dismisses international law as a frill. The phrase comes after the blitz in Venezuela and as the US Senate attempts, in a symbolic way, to put a stop to the war powers of the White House.
The political point is all there: the Law and the Constitution are retreating, the conscience and freedom of action of the "strong man" (forerunner of the dictator) are advancing.
In all this there is a lot of good news: as I wrote the day after his election, the only concrete possibility of peace for the world (including the Middle East) is that a second Civil War breaks out in the USA... and we have never been so close to this possibility, "thanks" to the President's wicked, discriminatory and lobbyist policies.
In this sense, yes, ex post the gangster Donaldo could even turn out to be a "peacemaker", because a front of attrition within the USA would mean the end of most of the conflicts on the planet: the US Army, the CIA and Israel, the fomenters and proponents of countless geopolitical imbalances, coups d'état, conflicts and modern genocides (Vietnam, Chile, Nicaragua, Iraq, Afghanistan, Gaza, etc.) they have in common a single financier, the Stars and Stripes taxpayer. But if the taxpayer takes up arms and stops contributing...
To stop a moving train, another train should not be thrown at it (it would be World War III).
More simply, the power must be cut off.
