It was built in the early 19th century and restored in 1995, and is the only windmill in the area that is still in operation: once a year it turns again during a local festival. September is here the month of gales. The date is never fixed: it depends on the weather, the orientation of the slope and the exact point of ripeness of the grapes, and in many plots the harvest is still done by hand, cluster by cluster. This task had such weight that the French republican calendar called its first month a grape harvest. In Spain the ritual coincides in time: every September La Rioja celebrates its grape harvest festival.
