# Lámparas de estrellas navideñas de papel, Alemania

A medida que se acerca la Navidad, las lámparas en forma de estrella llenan balcones, escaparates y mercadillos navideños como en la Plaza Mayor de Madrid. Su luz atraviesa las largas noches de invierno y envuelve calles y hogares en alegría, color y una cálida sensación de unión. Detrás de estas decoraciones, sin embargo, hay una historia tan brillante como ellas.  
  
La primera estrella nació en Niesky, Alemania, a comienzos del siglo XIX. Estudiantes de un internado de la Iglesia Morava la crearon durante una clase de geometría. Así surgió la Estrella de Herrnhut, una figura de 25 puntas hecha de papel y cartón que pronto simbolizó la Estrella de Belén y el espíritu del Adviento. En 1897, Pieter Verbeek, antiguo alumno del centro, comenzó a fabricarla y venderla. Su hijo Harry consolidó la tradición en 1925 con la fundación de la Herrnhut Star Factory.  
  
Desde entonces, la costumbre se extendió por Europa y hoy estas luminarias, artesanales o eléctricas, sencillas u ornamentadas, siguen transmitiendo el mismo mensaje: una sola chispa puede iluminar toda la temporada.

**Paper Christmas star lamps, Germany**

As Christmas approaches, star-shaped lamps fill balconies, shop windows, and  
Christmas markets such as the Plaza Mayor in Madrid. Their light pierces the long winter nights  
and envelops streets and homes in joy, color, and a warm feeling of togetherness. Behind these  
decorations, however, lies a story as bright as the stars themselves.  
  
The first star was born in Niesky, Germany, at the beginning of the 19th century. Students at a boarding school  
run by the Moravian Church created it during a geometry class. Thus arose the Herrnhut Star, a  
25-pointed figure made of paper and cardboard that soon came to symbolize the Star of Bethlehem and the spirit of  
Advent. In 1897, Pieter Verbeek, a former student at the school, began manufacturing and selling it. His son  
Harry consolidated the tradition in 1925 with the founding of the Herrnhut Star Factory.  
  
Since then, the custom has spread throughout Europe, and today these lights, whether handmade or electric,  
simple or ornate, continue to convey the same message: a single spark can illuminate  
the entire season.
