The set of Hobbiton is in Matamata (New Zealand), on a sheep farm that in 1998 caught the attention of the localizers of The Lord of the Rings: the hills already looked like the Shire and all that was missing were round doors, tidy orchards and smoking chimneys.

Those sets were provisional. For The Hobbit trilogy they were remade with permanent materials, and since then the place has welcomed those who want to set foot in Middle-earth.
