The European beaver is one of the most unique species of German fauna. It leaves an unmistakable mark on rivers and wetlands through gnawed trees and dikes built with branches and mud. It is famous for its orange, iron-reinforced incisors that grow non-stop and allow it to cut down trees with great precision. His dams create lagoons that benefit birds, amphibians and fish, which is why he is considered a true engineer of the ecosystem.
In Spain, the European beaver was absent for centuries, but reappeared at the beginning of the 21st century in the Ebro basin. Since then it has gradually settled in some rivers and tributaries, where it leaves clear signs of its activity, such as precisely cut logs. Its behaviour is striking for the way it selects materials and adapts the river environment to its needs. Their presence provides valuable information on the relationship between fauna and landscape.
El castor europeo es una de las especies más singulares de la fauna alemana. Deja una huella inconfundible en ríos y humedales mediante árboles roídos y diques construidos con ramas y barro. Es famoso por sus incisivos anaranjados, reforzados con hierro, que crecen sin parar y le permiten talar árboles con gran precisión. Sus presas crean lagunas que benefician a aves, anfibios y peces, por lo que se le considera un verdadero ingeniero del ecosistema.
En España, el castor europeo estuvo ausente durante siglos, pero reapareció a comienzos del siglo XXI en la cuenca del Ebro. Desde entonces se ha asentado de forma gradual en algunos ríos y afluentes, donde deja señales claras de su actividad, como troncos cortados con precisión. Su comportamiento resulta llamativo por la manera en que selecciona materiales y adapta el entorno fluvial a sus necesidades. Su presencia aporta información valiosa sobre la relación entre fauna y paisaje.
