Illuminating the Universe

The universe vibrates with creation. In the Lagoon Nebula, a cluster called NGC 6530 is illuminating newborn stars, reminding us that beginnings are woven into the cosmos. Located about 4,350 light-years away and barely a few million years old, this stellar nursery is still in its first chapter.

Every November 9, the world celebrates the Day of Carl Sagan, an astronomer who brought the wonders of the universe to everyone through fascinating and straightforward stories. Founded in 2009, this day is commemorated with lectures, planetarium shows, and stargazing nights that inspire scientific curiosity. Sagan's legacy includes the Voyager missions, the Golden Record, and the Cosmos series, encouraging millions to see science as a source of infinite possibilities. At Cornell University, home of the Carl Sagan Institute, his vision lives on through the search for habitable worlds.

NGC 6530 offers a unique spectacle: stars being born among gas and dust, a silent tribute to Sagan's message that "we are made of stellar matter." In Spain, fans take advantage of this date to look at the sky and get closer to the universe that he taught us to love.
